Martingale collars can only be placed over the head as there is no buckle. With this in mind, you need to ensure you correctly measure your dog before purchasing a collar.
Grab a soft tape measure or some string and measure points A, B & C in the drawing below. Choose the size that fits within these range of sizes to ensure that your collar fits like a glove.
A. This point needs to adjust to the largest part of the dogs head so the collar can be put on in the first place.
B. This is the measurement for where the collar will be when your dog spots your neighbours cat (restraining mode).
C. The relaxed collar measurement at the bottom of the neck. Pull the tape until it is snug but not tight. You should be able to comfortably put two fingers between the measuring tape and your dog's neck. Record your measurement.
Martingale collars are best used supervised during walks rather than within the home or in a tied unsupervised situation. Not suitable for use with retractable leashes.
